OIC reaffirms supports for Kashmir, Qureshi says Kashmiris look to member states now more than even. The organization of Islamic Cooperation contact group on Jammu and Kashmir, which held a meeting in New York, on Thursday reaffirmed its support to their just struggle for the exercise of their right to self determination while emphasizing that settlement of the dispute of Kashmir dispute under UN Security Council resolution was indispensable for durable peace and satiability in South Asia.
A meeting, in which Foreign Minister of Pakistan, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Azerbaijan as well as senior Niger diplomate took part, was presided over by the OIC Secretary General Doctor Yousaf Al-othaimeen . At the outset, Pakistan's foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi appraised members of the contact group about the grave situation in the Indian illegal Jammu and Kashmir saying that New Delhi prolonged siege of the disputed territory had exacerbated the already dire humanitarian conditions for the people.
A joint communique issued after the meeting discorded that Jammu and Kashmir is an internationally recognize issue that has been and continues to be on the agenda of the United National Security Council since 1948 and reaffirmed by the relevant UNSC resolutions granting the Kashmiri peoples their inalienable rights to self determination. It calls for reversing all illegal and unilateral measures taken on or after 05th of August 2019, stop the gross systematic and widespread human rights abuse in the Jammu & Kashmir occupied by the India halt the reverse the illegal demographic changes in the occupied territory , allow unrestricted access to UN Special procedures international medial and independent observers to visit Jammu & Kashmir and take concrete and meaningful steps for UNSC resolutions on Jammu & Kashmir. Shah Mehmood Qureshi urged the member countries to raise the issue at relevant UN forums including the General Assembly and human right council.
The Foreign Minister censured the Indian Forces for using pellet guns incarcerating Kashmiri leadership into custody and staging fake encounter in Jammu & Kashmir. He told the meeting that Pakistan had released a comprehensive dossier detailing the violations of human rights carried out by the Indian forces in the occupied valley. He requested the OIC Secretary General to circulate the dossier among the all members of the organization and had it widely disseminated . The Foreign Minister stressed that peace in South Asia is not possible until and unless the dispute of Jammu & Kashmir is resolved and till its decision the South Asia region is a flash point. He rebuked the Indian Government for not offering a proper funeral to veteran Kashmiri Leaders Syed Ali Gillani. He criticized New Delhi for intensifying repression dispute a Fire Agreement in February this year.
